Nola Blackwell was named B.C. School Bus Driver of the year.

For the second year in a row, a school bus driver in the Bulkley Valley has won the provincial School Bus Driver of the Year award.

The Association of School Transportation Services gave the 2024 award to Nola Blackwell, who has been driving students to school for almost 40 years.

Blackwell has been retired for four years, but still drives students to school because of her commitment to the job and to help out during a bus driver shortage.

"According to Nola, she continues to be a bus driver because she loves kids, enjoys the summer break to travel and she has the best view of Hudson Bay Mountain every day on her route," said School District 54 (Bulkley Valley) in a Facebook post.

"We are incredibly proud of Nola’s achievements and her invaluable contributions to our district."

Last year the award went to James "Dinty" Moore.
